Will have to admit that I can't pin down the exact calender date of the day I'm thinking of now, but the memory is burned in real good.

In July of '82, on vacation from my job in the Chicago area, I spent a couple of days visiting an old school roommate in Michigan. He was booked up one evening, so, almost over my dead body, he set me up with a blind date for that evening. By the time I parted from the young lady that night, I knew I was really interested in her. For the next few months I managed to keep in touch via mail and phone.

It was just after New Years in '83 when we had a chance to get together again. We got to spend a couple of days together that time.
As things happened, that ended with me putting her on a train to take her home.

It's that point of parting at the train station that I'm primarily "on about" just now. A hug and a smack, and she stepped unto the train. Within moments, I was standing there very nearly in physical shock from the separation. I came very close to jumping on the train and trying to track her down for a little more contact before it pulled out. As it was, I stood there stuck in place until the train pulled out, intensely aware that I might very well be at a major junture point in life.

We next got together on Memorial Day weekend. I came with a diamond in my pocket and my fingers very tightly crossed.

Married her the following December. I think I'll keep her.
