Thread Name: BS: The Cats of War
Subject: RE: BS: The Cats of War
The University of Washington studied, with Military funding, the use of Crows as spies. It was demonstrated that the crows could learn to recognize specific humans and could pass on their ability to recognize the same persons to other crows.

One proposal was to train flocks of them to recognize bin Laden and release them in various places. When the crows indicated they saw him, observers would know where he was.

The idiotic suggestion was also advanced that training crows to recognize our own people lost behind enemy lines would be helpful in finding them for rescue, however I think that if I were lost in unfriendly territory a bunch of stupid birds announcing where I was would be extremely low on my list of "desired events."

It is quite possible that large herds of cats would be needed to eliminate crows whose training became obsolete due to changing battlefield situations(?). Cats are quite easily trained to perform complex tasks. The only problem is getting the cat to agree with your notion that the tasks you want them to do are in any way beneficial to the cat.
