if you look in the address bar of your browser, you'll see that our filenames are *.cfm - they're all generated by a very old version ColdFusion, which creates Web pages "on the fly" from a database of messages.

The Forum is built on the forum that came with that Cold Fusion package. It used to be that you could find many forums on the internet that looked very much like Mudcat, but it's hard to find them nowadays because most current forums are built on different software packages.

I am aware that most of the time, there is no need for <br> tags within <pre> preformat tags, but apparently this ColdFusion forum does require the line breaks.
