In my preview, it appears that you can get the result wanted by:

1. Turn OFF Automatic Linebreaks.
2. Us <br> for all linebreaks between the <pre> and <\pre> tags.

The easy way to use all <br> tags, if you have Word, is to just type the text in Word, highlight everything you want changed, and use Edit|Replace with ^p in the "replace" box and <br> in the "replace with" box, replace all.

The ^p is how you tell Word Find/Replace to look for paragrah breaks (which shows as the Pilcrow symbol ¶ in Word, if you turn on "show all"). The <br> is just typed - not coded.

I'll wait for somebody to try this, before studying the situation further.
