I like to hear a positive update.

It's not easy but if it's what he feels he needs to do it can be done. One of my best friends was both a smoker and an alcoholic and was close to death 20 years ago. He managed to shake both addictions, first alcohol and then smoking, with some help from friends 15 years ago and still walks this earth.
