Thread Name: Source Req: Erinaco [Hedgehog]
Subject: Source Req: Erinaco [Hedgehog]
Anybody know the source (nationality? original language/text? author? English title/text?) of the presumably European-folk song I just posted on my website at http://www.geocities.com/lilandr/kantoj/diversaj/Erinaco1.htm (it's got the melody in the background if that helps, or you can get the MIDI by clicking on the link below the text). The story line runs thusly:

  1. Our grandfather once found a hedgehog in a garden
    And he hid it under a towel on the bench by the hearth.
    (Ref.)
    Yes, yes, it's true. Yes, yes, it's true. If you don't believe it, come see for yourself.
  2. Not paying attention, our aunt sat down on top of the hedgehog;
    Like a dragoon from the saddle she jumped off like a shot!
  3. The village is awash in mocking wonder at the level of sense
    Demonstrated by our aunt who tried to ride a hedgehog.
Of course in Esperanto it has better rhyme and scansion. But I am interested in any light anybody can shed on its provenance.
