The Traditional Song Forum will be holding it's next meeting at the Surrey History Centre in Goldsworth Road, Woking, Surrey on Saturday 21 May 2011.
The meeting will start at 10 am, and will be centred around three talks to be given by members on folksong collectors associated with Surrey.
David Sutcliffe, recent author of the book "The Keys of Heaven", has been researching the life of Charles Marson, friend and collaborator of Cecil Sharp . and will give a presentation on Marson's contribution to folksong collecting; Irene Shettle has been conducting research into the papers of Lucy Broadwood held at the History Centre, and will give a talk on Lucy's life, work and influence on other collectors and musicians ; and Lewis Jones will be giving a talk on Francis Jekyll, who collected in Surrey and Sussex, and was related to the well known garden designer Gertrude Jekyll of Munstead Wood in Surrey (which Frances was later to become the manager and owner of). Lewis will be accompanied by Mrs Primrose Arnander, Jekyll's great niece.
The meeting will be open to members of the public, and is free of charge (although the Forum would welcome reasonable donations). Bookings for places (although free) must be made through the Surrey History Centre who need to be aware of numbers attending.
Further information and full details of the day can be found on the Traditional Song Forum's newspage by following the link on this page .
