Thread Name: Mitchell Guitar
Subject: Mitchell Guitar
I was searching for a guitar for my daughter. (She has my favourite and I wanted it back) I was in Norfolk/ Virginia Beach on a visit and I went into the VB Guitar Center looking for an inexpensive but playable learner guitar. The salesperson directed me to one hanging on the wall which he said had exceptional sound for a cheapo. Of course it was laminate but it had a good ring to it. The nut slots were high as was the saddle but the neck was good and the price was $99.99. No set-up for that price but I can do that myself. I asked if he had anymore of the same? He had one still in the box so I said "open her up for me and let me give her a try." I have never heard a laminate guitar with so much volume and sustain and I bought her on the spot. After I returned home I lowered the nut slots but the saddle was dead on (compensated) except for slight high intonation on the low "E".
The name on the peg-head says Mitchell. It is made in China, has a bound neck and abalone around the soundhole. It looks good and sounds great! I have never heard a laminate sound like this (factory strings) and I would expect this to be a rare exception but the first one was very good as well. Therefore I wonder if anyone else knows anything about these? I kid you not I would put this in a blind test against ones costing 20 times as much!
