I seem to remember hearing or reading something like "life is what happens while you're waiting for something else."
I wrote a stanza a while back I ought to work on some more. It's mostly about being open to finding unexpected beauty, but it works:
It's not about the place you're headed It's about the road instead, It's the journey you never want to end, It's not about what's in your mind But the gifts you might find to take your breath away, Around the bend
