Perhaps I'm not 'in the know', but I don't think Friday's really a main night for folk sessions in Liverpool at the present time - there's Woody Guthrie Folk Club at the Ship and Mitre on Thursday night, but I can't think of anything going on in town on Friday (if anybody knows of something, I'd be interested to hear about it too!)

Chester Folk Festival starts on Friday, doesn't it? Perhaps not exactly 'surrounding area', but certainly easily accessible via the Merseyrail network.
