"They don't appear to get mentioned much in the "folky web sites" but they really should."
Well, that might be debatable.
I listened to some of their offerings on their web site, and they are very good. I also looked at the track lists of their rcordings, but of all the songs listed—not a single traditional folk song among them. Their style is a fairly polished version of what, for a better expression, could be called "commercial folk-revival," and they do it very well. And their instrumentation (guitar, Celtic harp, mandolin, clarinet, piano, and drums) is only marginally "folk."
I would put them into the same general category as Judy Collins in her later career. She started out singing traditional songs, but later on, she abandoned the folk material in favor of recently written songs, some of which were written specifically for her. She is very good—lovely singing voice—but she has taken herself out of the "folk singer" category.
Again, I am not denigrating the Webb Sisters. But they would be of only marginal interest to a folk music forum
