My favourite quotation is 'a "merciful and compassionate God" would spare humanity by compressing the apocalyptic destruction into a shorter time frame'

I have to say that doesn't sound terribly compassionate to me. I can imagine myself in a court: "Yes, I did torture xxx people, but in my defence I did it in a few weeks when I'd intended to take a few months over it."
