Thread Name: Missing Lurtsema- is his voice on the web?
Subject: Missing Lurtsema- is his voice on the we
I can't say this isn't folk, because it was from Robert J. I first heard Jean Redpath, the Revels, and so many more folk musicians who changed my life.
I pulled my "Start your day with Robert J." t-shirt from the pile today and have been caught up in waves of nostalgia for my favorite radio announcer. I came of age listening to Morning Pro Musica on WGBH Boston every morning of my life from the year he started, in 1971, until I moved out of radio range in 1996 (and even then I would find excuses on the weekends to drive 20 miles southeast to hear his voice and his program on my car radio).
He informed my life as a musician- he opened my world far beyond my small suburban adolescence and broadened my scope to lead me to the paths I took to become the person I am today.
I'm searching the web to hear his voice say, "Good morning, and welcome to Morning Pro Musica..." His birds can be heard on Youtube, but I can't find his voice anywhere.
I have a Christmas Revels recording where he plays Father Christmas, but it's too declamatory; I want the intimate radio announcer in my ears again.
Or failing that, please share your Robert J. stories!
