The song references Paradise.

Any true Geordie and student of Tyneside culture will know that it refers to a kink the Scotswood Road where the road went under the old railway line. I believe it was known as Paradise because of the proliferation of allotments and crees on the grassy banks; even back in the 70s / ealy 80s the feel was quite lovely. Anyway, the railway has long gone, the bridge demolised; likewise the crees and allotments, and whilst gannin alang the Scotswood Road recently I realised they'd effectively straightened out the kink. So - Paradise Lost! In fact, the whole area looks like bland corportate landscaped shite these days...

Conrad, as a keen follower of north east culture you'll like this, which also features Blaydon Races:

PS - The only good Stotty Cakes are made by Greggs; do you have them imported?
