The citizens of Ulm raised 132,000 gold pieces to buy off the Wombat, and it crippled their economy for years afterward and caused them to fall prey to the Hanoverians who forced them to produce unprecedented amounts of blood sausage as tribute, since they had no gold left. The Wombat retired to Barcelona and lived there in obscene luxury until his death.
