Smoke pot... a bucket into which you put dry stuff... twigs, leaves, whatever. Light it up and put green grass and dry stuff as appropriate to make the whole works smolder and produce a long lastin gentle waft of smoke.

If my forefathers had not known of this I wouldn't be here on accounta the black flies, let alone the skeeters, woulda et them while they were cuttin pulp and pickin spuds.... tryin ta scratch a livin outta the fly infested bog country a Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada.
