I think there is almost a sadistic (is that the right word) happiness, or a boastful sort of pride in Invader's descriptions of the young girls and women who must now "hustle for their usual shilling" now that the Americans are gone. It's almost as if he's implying that this is their comeuppance for rejecting him. Does anyone share this opinion?
