Last time I replaced a refrigerator that was about 10 years old (2000 vintage), the repairman said nowadays for most makes the expected lifetime is about 10 years. FWIW. The problems is that nowadays all the parts are enclosed so they can't repair 'em.

When my parents left my childhood home, they finally gave up the one that had been there for the 40+ years they had been in the house. The freezer in the basement was 30 years old.
