Thread Name: Lyr Add: I Got Your Ice Cold Nugrape
Subject: Lyr Add: I GOT YOUR ICE COLD NUGRAPE
Here's a delightful song from volume 1 of Yazoo's 4 volume 'Times Ain't What They Used To Be' set. Maybe the Nugrape Twins recorded it in the hope of reward from the Nugrape company. After all, Uncle Dave Macon got a Ford from Henry.

I GOT YOUR ICE COLD NUGRAPE

I got a Nugrape nice and fine
The rings around the bottle is a-genuine
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

I got a Nugrape nice and fine
Got plenty imitation but there's none like mine
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

'Way down yonder in the promised land
A-run and tell your mama here the Nugrape man
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

Little childrens in the backyard playing in the sand,
A-run and tell your mama here the Nugrape man
I got your ice-cold Nugrape
(Humming)

When you're feeling kinda blue
Do not know what's ailing you
Get a Nugrape from this stall
Then you'll have the blues no more
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

What's that make your lips go flipp-i-ty
Flop a-when you drink a Nugrape you don't know when to stop
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

If from work you come home late
Rollin' pin waits at the gate
Smiling, bribe her with Nugrape
Then you'll sneak through in good shape
I got your ice-cold Nugrape

Sister Mary has a beau
Says he's crazy, loves her so
Buys a Nugrape every day
Know he's bound to win that way
I got your ice-cold Nugrape
(Humming)

Source: Nugrape Twins 'I Got Your Ice Cold Nugrape' Columbia Co 14187-D. Recorded in Atlanta, Georgia, on 2 November 1926. Reissued on Various Artists 'Times Ain't What They Used To Be Vol 1' Yazoo CD 2028. Also reissued on Various Artists 'Living Humble: A Gospel Compilation' Nugrape CD-07. [Nugrape Records is a 1-man old-timey and vintage blues reissue company in Australia - he probably took the name from the Nugrape Twins].

There is no note about these black recording artists in the Yazoo booklet to 'Times Vol 1'. Godrich & Dixon list 8 recordings by them in 2 sessions in 1926 and 1927. One of these, an unissued personal recording, is titled 'Nugrape Is A Flavor You Can't Forget'. From the titles, all the other recordings appear to be gospel pieces. The recordings are sub-credited 'Mark and Matthew' in the Columbia files.
