I remember one long night driving my '67 AH Sprite from San Bernardino to San Diego.The points in the Lucas fuel pump were bad, and every few miles the engine would sputter to stop,I would get out and reach under the car with a hammer, pound on the fuel pump till it ran enough to fill the float bowls, then drive until the engine sputtered to a stop...etc.etc.

I finally stopped at an all night gas station at highway 74 and US 395,pulled the fuel pump off, and sanded the points.The mechanics on duty all thought I was nuts but i drove off and made it all the way home to Chula Vista.

I became very adept at tuning the twin SUs,so much so that other British car owners brought their cars to me to set their carbs. Until the day I put the 40 DCOE Weber on it and wondered where that carb had been all my life.It was an epiphany.
