Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Collyhurst Road
I remember Val going down our street banging a drum pretending to be in the whit walks band. I went to St Malachy's school and played around the river Irk. I remember Barry Millington and Anne Black who lived on my street, Elizanne St, off Rochdale Road, I still have a 'Heidi' book that has Anne's name in it. A girl from school, Pauline Greenhalgh lived on Collyhurst Road, as did my sister's friend Christine Spellman, this was in the 1950's, I am 62 now. We played house on the croft where all the houses had been bombed. Bonfire night was great, all the street got together making treacle toffee, toffe apples etc. We stored the wood in our cellars until bonfire night, swung around the old gaslamps, scruffy little urchins we were, but healthy after playing out all day.Fond memories of Barnies and the red hills.
