Why Poets are Sung


I am of the mind that a good poem
Is an exploding escape
That says, at least on occasion,
The tight bars may stretch, even melt, and
The prisoners dance free just
For a while.

The sheriff refuses
To discuss things
Beyond his jurisdiction.
Still, on occasion,
His prisoners dance,
Keeping their names secret from him.
