.....and just when I thought I was safe.... Yes sir, this year we finally got a McDonalds in our little unincorporated village. One thing I can't stand is cold coffee ~ not even luke warm ~ however there should be a law against drink'en the stuff from a wobbly plastic cup whilest driving a car.Aye... and about the British sports car. I owned to of them little dream cars back in the early 60's. In the early 50's the ship I was on (USS HELENA) had Long Beach, Calif. as its home port. When I went on liberty I used to walk 20 blocks (I counted them) just to look through the window of a sports car dealer. It was during this time that I fell in love with the MG. One advantage to the walk was a White Castle hamburger stand. 15 cents fur a burger and 15 cents for french fries and 20 cents for a shake. YOUNG PEOPLE DO NOT GET CROTCH BURNS FROM COFFEE BECAUSE THEY DRINK SHAKES.
Finally in the early 60's I bought an MG A and a few years later I got a hold of an Austin Healey 3000 ~ with both of these cars you could NOT drink coffee and drive because you were shifting gears all the time. The Healey had four regular gears plus a switch to throw for overdrive in either third or fourth gear. Absolutely the most fond memories of driving in my life. I would take the Healey into a local gas station to have it greased. There must have been about 150 grease fittings and the guys would have it on the hoist for about an hour and a half and still just charge me the regular buck fifty. Me thinks they just enjoyed working on something a little more interesting.
