I am looking for a song that goes as follows:
CH: Salvation Army, Salvation Army
Put a Nickel In the Drum
Save another bum.
Verse: I was lying in the gutter
All covered up with beer
A pretzel in my ear
I knew the end was near
Along came the Army to save my from disgrace
So everybody bust a gut and sing another Verse
The song is part of the college humour and parady tradition. I heard it from some Ivy league Grads in the 60's.
I personally think that the Army has done a lot of good work, but a great song is a great song.
