The 14th Amendment says that the Federal Government must honor its debts.
The problem right now is that the ceiling keeps the government from increasing the National Debt.
Not the same thing.
If Sears cuts off your credit until you pay your old bill, they are simply asking you to honor your existing debt. Building up more debt is not the same thing.
