What about all that money that the super-rich are taking out of our economy? If every billionaire in the country was suddenly a millionaire instead, and were paying taxes, we'd have plenty of money to do anything we wanted. That's the big problem with the whole Tea Party thing. They say "Clean up the debt!" and everyone agrees with that sentiment. But then they say "No new revenue!" and "Let the poor folks bear the brunt" and they become heartless idiots.

GfS, saying we can't afford it is only the first part. How we rearrange things to make it better is the hard part; one sentence solutions aren't real solutions. So -- as you say, we can't afford it. What's next?
