I think I'll post the lyrics here, since they're likely to get lost in a generic thread about Fords. I think the Econoline was one of the ugliest and worst-designed vehicles ever to come from Detroit, but it's a good excuse to remember good old Dale Rose. I compared Dale's transcription with the recording, and it's quite accurate. Thread #80670 Message #1471989

To give at least a little balance for the Econoline, here's Nanci Griffith's tribute to Rosalie Sorrels.
FORD ECONOLINE
(Nanci Griffith, 1987)
She drove west from Salt Lake City to the California coastline
She hit the San Diego Freeway doing sixty miles an hour
She had a husband on her bumper
She had five restless children
She was singing sweet as a mockingbird in that Ford Econoline
CHORUS
She's the salt of the earth
Straight from the bosom of the Mormon church
With a voice like wine
Cruising along in that Ford Econoline
Now her husband was a gambler, he was a Salt Lake City rambler
He built a golden cage around his silver-throated wife
Too many nights he left her crying with his cheating and his lying
But his big mistake was him buying her that Ford Econoline
CHORUS TWICE
Now she sings her songs around this country
From Seattle to Montgomery
Those kids are grown and that rounder knows
You cannot cage your wife
Along the back roads of our nation, she's become a living legend
She drives a Coupe DeVille but her heart rides still
In that Ford Econoline
She drives a Coup DeVille but her heart rides still
In that Ford Econoline
Idle aside: this was from Nanci's first MCA album, Lone Star State Of Mind, 1987. It was my very first CD purchase, a couple of months before I even had a player. I had no faith in MCA's willingness to keep it in print long enough for me to get a player. I'm glad to say I was wrong on that count, as it is still available.
Rest in peace, Dale.
