Amos, get him a big teddy bear or another large, soft doll. He'll need it to hold tightly to his chest when he coughs -- and he'll be encouraged to cough. The teddy bear (or a pillow) really does help with the pain. My brother, who had nine bypasses, swears to this and he hasn't lied to me very much recently.
