I think perhaps if gays were accepted and they had exactly the same rights and treatment as straight people, they wouldn't need to parade etc. But until they achieve this (and I hope they do) they probably feel the need to demonstrate and march. it's a bit like the Suffragettes, once women achieved the Vote, they stopped marching etc.
