Toads and frogs won't eat snails. Beer is good for them. Put it in a shallow bowl in the evening and make sure the beer is fresh.

Keep us up on the work on the house, Andrea!

The rain yesterday was exactly what we needed, a gentle rain over several hours. Might have been 3/4 to 1 inch total. No more rain in sight and today is really muggy.

My friend Dean is losing his house - the loan company informed him they're selling it to the highest bidder on the courthouse steps on Sept. 6. Years ago as a newspaper reporter I saw this happen - as they literally stand on the steps a cluster of men in suits transact business that will change the lives of the poor people whose homes they are selling or bidding on. I'm going to be rearranging my garage in the next couple of weeks and storing as much of his stuff that can go in a non-climate controlled environment. I have a pickup so I'll probably be moving stuff for him wherever he decides to put it, and if he needs to stay with me for a while, I'll be moving a bunch of my stuff from one of the rooms. Busy four weeks coming up!
