No one has worn a pinafore in Ontario since 1965 at the latest. In my far-distant youth it was a home-made apron-like garment literally pinned on to the shoulders and waist of a little girl's Sunday dress to protect it from domestic fallout (i.e., blobs of raspberry jam). The extinction of the pinafore can be ascribed to the demise of the Sunday dress and the proliferation of the automatic washing machine.
