I often find a little difference in the number of versions of a ballad in Bronson (The Traditional Tunes of the Child Ballads) and in the number of versions Bronson has according to the Ballad Index. One example for all: Child #243. In Bronson I find 145 versions + 1 in addenda; the Ballad Index says there are 146 + 1. Why?
