Here's one for uour, Don...

A course entitled "The Spirit Level: Why Greater Equality Makes Societies Stronger" V."Atlas Shrugged"...

Be very interesting... Reminds me of:

In my last year of college (1st degree) in 1970 a course was advertised entitled "Contemporary Urban Problems, Seminar" and it was taught/lead/ moderated/refereed by a great guy who was the then Commissioner of the Administration (governor's right hand man), T. Edward Temple... The class limit was 10 students and everyone had to write an essay on why they deserved to be accepted... Oh, and the were looking for 4 lefties, 4 righties and 2 centrists....

I was the "rector"(always hated that word, sounds too much like rectum, lol) of the Radical Student Union so I was a lock for one of the 4 leftie slots...

Also very interesting...

The finest part of it is that we lefties snared one of the righties by the end of the course... He was a stuffy head of the School of Pharmacy at MCV (Medical College of Virginia) which was part of VCU and it was so cool to watch the transformation...

The second finest part was that we each got to lead a class (2 hours, 45 minutes) on some urban problem and when it was my turn I chose "poverty in America" and the university president, Warren Brandt, sat in on it and tried to screw with me but he had come to a real gun fight with nothin' more that a bb gun and I ate his lunch and turned back all his BS with facts and sources... (BTW, he and I didn't get along at that well before that so that was fun...)

But yeah, it does come down to ones perspective on what we as people are supposed to be doing for ourselves and our community... Dr. King V. Ayn Rand... GfinS V. Bob/Don... Rick Perry/Barack Obama... Sharing V. Greed... Lotta choices... Lotta differences...

I guess that is why I don't let the "both sides" mythology see the light of day without challenging it... There is a vast difference between the two camps... Larger than at any point in my life time...
