Thread Name: Concert: Pete Seeger & Friends 9/11/11
Subject: Concert: Pete Seeger & Friends 9/11/11
A friend of mine (his mudcat moniker is GVTom) sent me the news today that he has his ticket for the Sept 11, 2011 concert where Pete Seeger (and hopefully/possibly/probably) other folksingers will appear. In case that link doesn't work, here is the general signup with the group hosting it.

The concert is at the NYU Rosenthal Pavillion, 60 Washington Square South, New York, NY
Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM (ET)

Right now it says 349 tickets are remaining and they cost $35 plust $2.92 fee.

Last year I heard from Tom telling me about how other performers like Theodore Bikel were there and joined in - sounded like a jubilant and spirited performance by simply some of the smartest and best voices of their generation. Here is the blurb from the sponsor website:

A 9/11 Commemoration in Music and Film: "LOVE WINS," an afternoon of music, stories, and film will pay tribute to 9/11 responders and to those who lost their lives and loves on that tragic day. Legendary musician and activist Pete Seeger will headline the afternoon, which will feature appearances by musicians performing Deodato's classic "2001" track, and musicians David Amram, Sharon Benson, Kenn Moutenot, James Cannings, Dina Richardson, Laleh, Cecilia St King, Spook Handy, David LaMotte, and Marian Loguidice. Other special guest musicians to be announced.

As New York prepares for the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks, our city will gather together to inspire each other and create a new vision for an harmonious Future. To this end, musicians, spiritual leaders, and members of the medical, education, and faith communities will come together to embrace "courage, sacrifice, healing and renewal" in this extraordinary setting overlooking our beautiful city. All proceeds will go to support scholarships for 9/11 responders and their children. Video testimonies from WTC disaster responders and the companion book, ""We're Not Leaving! 9/11 Responders Tell their Stories of Courage, Sacrifice and Renewal" will also be part of the program. Dr. Benjamin Luft, Director, Long Island Medical Monitoring and Treatment Center/State University of New York at Stony Brook and author of this book will share his experiences serving and interviewing the 9/11 community of first responders.

First 100 9/11 responders free!!!! Please email info@forgivetogive.org for information and code

This is what Tom wrote (briefly) about last year's concert (I wish I could find his message from last year):

I had the opportunity to see Pete summer last year at St. John's, opposite Boots and Saddles.

His second song was Over The Rainbow and there was a not a dry eye in the house. And Phil Och's "Power and Glory." Theodore Bikel joined him.

Don't miss this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to see folk history, GV in the 50s and 60s ,labor movement, woody guthiie, this is it.

Trust me on this.

The concert content will be different than last year's event, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the same folks turn up. (This is just a guess, mind you.) So, for $37.92, attending a concert that sounds like it will potentially be a gathering of a lot of old friends who just happen to be great folk singers who are friends of Pete's sounds like a pretty good bet. Think about making the trip into the City if you're nearby.
