Unlike in some of the other arts (I think of it as the "great actor - bad waiter" paradigm), I think that what you learn in pursuing a career in music really helps you to succeed in other fields. Lately, in business, I have found that often the most competent, self-reliant, imaginative workers are people who once pursued music as a profession. If writers are people who are "temperamentally unsuited for anything else", maybe musicians are people who could do almost anything else, but just don't wanna.
