Concerning "Welcome, welcome, every guest" --

Here's another link to the piece in Southern Harmony, where the tune is titled "Canon". It's at on Hymnody.org and the image is slightly clearer and zoomable, so that you can read the note that says, "This song was composed by the Rev. B. Hicks (a Baptist minister of South Carolina) and sent to his wife while he was confined in Tennessee by [?] of which he afterwards recovered."

However, the Rev. B. Hicks, was probably remembering something he heard before see this discussion, especially the post from the estimable Warren Steel: Fasola Discussions, August 2010, at Google Groups.
