It's been going round in my head for some reason. I'm hoping that mudcat's knowledge will help to exorcise the flaming thing.

Guesses that it's a children's counting song (a la 12 days of Christmas), but I'd like to know.

First verse is:

Children go where I send thee
How shall I send thee
I'm gonna send thee one by one
One for the itty bitty baby
Wrapped in swaddling clothing
Lying in a manger
Born, born, born in Bethlehem

And so on, increasing the number. I remember hearing it on a tape of a live recording when I was 5-6 (Ah, the world 14 years ago...), but don't remember any of what they said.
