It's true about looks not mattering regarding an airport. That's why I used to like Tripoli ( hub of Afriqiyah airline ) It had character, and the staff were supremely kind and helpful. Also quite exotic, the women wore veils, some in GLOVES (in that heat!) so no-one could see their hands. Poor things, I suppose the buildings are in a sad state now, and Afriqiyah no longer flies.
I've flown to Alicante long ago, but don't remember much about it.
The London airports are dire:- disinterested staff, a feeling of danger and distrust, not enough places to sit etc etc. I generally head for the Chapel! (To pray for patience!)
