A not-to-be missed night at Shammick Acoustic is coming up next Saturday, 24th September, when we'll be bringing American music with more than a little Western English influence to our audience.

The Carrivick Sisters need little introduction in North Devon, but for those who haven't caught up with them yet, Laura and Charlotte are the tremendously talented young twins from South Devon who are taking the folk and the bluegrass scenes by storm!

Between them, they play guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro and fiddle, and although usually classed as bluegrass, their music has a strong folk influence which is evident in their original songs, many of which will strike a chord with Devon audiences as they are inspired by the local landscape and stories, so much so that their music has been dubbed 'greengrass'!

Still only just in their 20s, they are experienced performers who have played all over the UK, in Europe and Canada, and have released four CDs. They have won awards both here and in America, last year becoming finalists in the BBC's Young Folk Awards, and have played at Glastonbury Festival, Llangollen Eisteddfod and the London Guitar Festival, amongst many other prestigious events. They were booked at no less than 26 UK festivals in 2010!

Ralph McTell is one of their fans, saying, "I was very impressed… The girls sing and play as one, and their work is characterised by great musicality." Pete Coe also waxed lyrical about them after seeing them recently. If you haven't heard them yet, make sure you do – and if you have, you won't need any persuading!

Tickets are available in advance for £6 online through WeGotTickets, or at the door for £7.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. and includes a number of local and not-so-local performers in support spots. It should be a great evening's entertainment!

Don't forget that you can get a meal at The Pack o' Cards before the concert, or even stay overnight if you're coming from a distance. Just give Chris and Debbie a call on 01271 882300.
