PECOS TRAIL As sung by Bob Devlin (on a recording)
Out in the morning on the Pecos Trail, the day is coming on. The cook fires are a-smokin' in the early dawn. The sand and the sage on the Pecos Trail are bathed in the orange of day. Saddled up, we're moving on our way.
(Chorus): And it's ride, oh pretty girl; it's you and me today, Moving 'cross this country on our broad highway. And it's ride, oh pretty girl, heading down the line, And it's ride, ride, ride 'til the sun don't shine.
Land lays flat along the Pecos Trail reaching up to meet the sky. . . ? -- Night falls soft on the Pecos Trail . . . . --
Eli Ross is a fine trail boss and he's been on many a drive. I don't think I've seen a tougher man alive. He and his brother come from Tennessee; that was many years ago. Now the trail's the only ho-ome Eli knows.
(Chorus): And it's ride, oh pretty girl; ride and sing a song, Thinkin' of the true love I left back at home. And it's ride, oh pretty girl, heading down the line, And it's ride, ride 'til the sun don't shine.
