Kathleen, Do you suppose that Gertrude Stein, in her lovely love poem to Alice, "Sacred Emily" lifted that line from the English round?

"Night town.
Night town a glass.
Color mahogany.
Color mahogany center.
Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.
Loveliness extreme.
Extra gaiters.
Loveliness extreme.
Sweetest ice cream.
Pages ages page ages page ages.
Wiped. Wiped wire wire.
Sweeter than peachers and pears and cream...".

I do love Gertrude, but it is definitely an acquired taste...harpgirl
