Subject: RE: BS: Sexual Fantasies and our past
Some years - - well, decades - ago I came across a book providing a summary of the theories of some 30 or so famous psychiatrists. The book was very well written, and gave excellent summaries for the ones I knew something about, so I can assume that the rest were summarized with equal accuracy.
The author made one disastrous mistake, however, by including a brief "bio" of each psychiatrist before proceding to the description of their ideas. In each case, the bio alone was sufficient to predict what the theories would be without the necessity of reading the explanations.
I think it's quite apparent what kind of early family life the author of the cited article likely had, although I didn't find enough original content in my brief reading of it to be all that ineterested.
One quite notable practicioner that a friend consulted, and asked me to accompany her to offer "consultation on her condition" for the psyc, explained (when my friend asked "what's the difference between a psychiatrist and any other doctor,") that:
"in medical school all doctors are expected to take a course on mental health treatment, and most courses include a "typical course of therapy." The ones who are helped most significantly decide that it's a great thing and become psychiatrists."
I thought it was consistent with my prior observations.
