What Lizzie said!

The Gurkhas have a long history of fighting for Britain, and what is not romanticised is their hard wired respect for the British Army, for their largely white British officers, and for the Crown.

Who else would walk several hundred miles over territory which is about 90% near vertical, from Nepal to India where the army had its recruiting station, for the privilege of joining a foreign army.

I remember a retired officer of a Gurkha regiment talking on telly about their part in WW2. He said that he told his Gurkha NCOs that they would be jumping into the Burmese jungle from planes at low level, and the senior NCO commented that they might not be one hundred percent effective. Their faces lit up when he mentioned parachutes, but not one had even considered refusing to jump.

Their loyalty and commitment deserves better than to be abandoned now.
