Subject: RE: Tune Req: Bugle Marches and Quicksteps
Have you gotten in touch with R.J. SAMP? He is one of the foremost "Gurus" of ACW military / reenacting bugling, and has a nifty website. He also has a couple of instructional tapes and booklets available, and I consider him my #1 resource for ACW bugling. I would post u a link, but this new beta-version browser won't let me do that for some reason... It's called "American Civil War Bugler" on erols.com/agarbeck/acwbugler/ or something like that. A Quickstep reffers to the tempo; a common marching cadance; R.J. can explain all that better than I. Yes, they did have "Martial Airs" for bugle, some in 3-part harmony! Mr. SAMP does one of them (melody only) on one of his tapes as a "Tattoo". If you are a Reenactor, RJ can help you get your Bugler impression right up to speed. What kind of bugle are you using? I have a fairly decent repro (?) "C" Clairon De' Ordnance, and it's a fine sounding horn - I just wish I played it competently! Let us know how you make out, here. "Uncle Jaque", 3rd Maine Reg'tl.
