Well England won........just !!!

They were outplayed for most of the game but a fervent Scottish pack. As I forecast yesterday, it wasn't pretty but it was exciting with either side looking as though they could win in the last quarter of the game.

However Scotland's inability to score tries let them down again and of course if you are to be successful you have to be able to cross that white line.

I feel so sorry for Chris Patterson who has been an outstanding player for Scotland over the years and has contributed greatly to the team. Although Jonny Wilkinson usually gets all the plaudits for kicking ( not this time in NZ though) IMHO he is an equally good kicker and had he been able to play for a more open and attacking team he would have been up there with the best.

So we now must meet the French ( barring some freak results). On today's showing England will need to improve, but I earnestly hope they will.
