Subject: BS: The (Albino) Hunchback of Notre Dame?
Alright, this is a continuation of the question re: Quasimodo, red hair, and albinism on CapriUni's blog thread, started on Jeri's suggestion (Thank you, Jeri!) On Azizi's blog "pancocojams",she has a post on "Black-on-Black Taunting" in which she describes how there was a redheaded girl she knew as a who turned out to be an albino. Although most albinos have white-blond(e) hair, there is a type of albinism called rufous albinism, which causes red hair. I started to think about the reasons for Quasimodo's red hair and pale skin because (spoiler)it is eventually revealed in Hugo's novel that he was exchanged for Esmeralda(whose mother is revealed to be a White Frenchwoman) when he was four and Esmeralda was a baby, making him Roma. He was left on the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral while Esmeralda (originally Agnes) was raised by his biological family in his place. BTW, Hugo only refers to him as "the child of a Gypsy" and his father could have been White, but anyone want to discuss the idea that he may have had a form of albinisnm?
