That applies by reflection I think to the Saturday night session when that or another band got a paid gig and John Barden and I and other singers were drafted in - not a plan: Only instruments can compete with the Saturday night crowd (pass the bombarde, please... or the trombone or cornet...). Oh, or the late Dave Bryant, maybe, whose voice was almost a WMD.   

We might have been able to do the lunchtime slot more successfully than the evening, but the band had taken that in exchange for the evening.

If JB had still done the lunchtime he is scrupulous about maintaining a mixed session with opportunities for everyone.

But it was still a WONDERFUL weekend.
