I don't know if there was any previous provocation but Rooney can be a bit hot headed anyway.

On the other hand, IF Rooney was just being a thug, toss him in the river.... after his jersey is removed for good.

I'm no fan of Rooney but having seen the incident on the Internet, I do think some are getting a bit over excited about this one. It was needless and stupid but I don't think it was worth more then the sending off (which will also lead to a suspension) he got and perhaps a bollocking from his manager.
