Thread Name: Lyr Req: Rue de la Paix / And Mimi
Subject: Lyr Add: AND MIMI (from Dick Haymes)
AND MIMI
As sung by Dick Haymes, 1947

On the Rue de la Paix
There was once a cabaret
And Mimi.
As the night went along
There was suddenly a song
And Mimi.
All the world seemed to say
That they loved the cabaret
And Mimi,
But I knew that when she'd see me,
Mimi'd sing for me alone.

Came an Apache with a passion
For dancing with the one that I adore,
Taught her to dance in his fashion,
And for me she's singing no more.

On the Rue de la Paix
There was once a cabaret
And Mimi.
Now I'm sitting sad and dreamy
Just for Mimi and her song.

[Also recorded by Mel Torme, Johnny Thompson, Charlie Spivak & His Orchestra, The Dinning Sisters, Frankie Carle, and Ray Dorey, all around 1947.]

[There is also a French version, ET MIMI, recorded by Jean Sablon, but I'm not fluent enough to transcribe more than this:]

Dans la Rue de la Paix
Il y avait un cabaret
Et Mimi....
