Many folk in the developing world have no documents at all regarding the date of their birth. My husband's parents were listed as being both born on 1st January, which I thought a wonderful coincidence, but apparently everyone is given that date! As to the year, an approximation is made, but it could be way out. As the Guinness Book of Records is based on dates, times and factual corroboration, I agree with them, documentation is needed.
